As many of you know, I began Hella Black Brunch as a proactive effort to hold brave space for Black folks on the day of nationwide marches in response to the inauguration of 45.
It's been four years since we first filled two sittings of 70+ people at the Bay Area's beloved Enssaro Ethiopian Restaurant. And since then, we've been blessed to continue serving up food, fun, and aspirational futurity in homes and community spaces across the Bay, Deep South, and Southeast.
Hella Black Brunch’s Juneteenth return does not gather you outside, in communal space.
This Digital Juneteenth Jawn brings Hella Black Brunch community directly into your home.
I could not be more excited to share all that we’ve prepared to share with you this week.
Let’s start with the perfect Juneteenth Jawn menu - designed for you and a minute crew or the safe community gathering of your choice.

This time around, Hella Black Brunch Resident Chef Redwood Hill and I didn’t make the menu by ourselves. We invited Josmine Evans to join us in creating a menu that speaks to patience, resilience, Black ingenuity, and the long and lasting connection between America and Africa’s Gold and Rice Coasts.
We’ll be sharing these recipes with you over the next two weeks.
HERE’S where you can download the Juneteenth Jawn shopping list to cook along with us!
Also, don’t forget to plan to join us this Friday + Saturday for our next two events:
Red Red Rice: An IG Live about Jollof and Black Jubilee
For Good Measure: Black Culinary Practice & Prophecy this Saturday on Zoom!
As always, more to come.
